Lil Nas X just made history as the first out gay man to win a Country Music Award
Lil Nas X might as well add ‘making history’ to his résumé, because he’s done just that again.
Yesterday, the rapper became the first out gay man to win a Country Music Association Award at the CMA Awards last night, Variety reported.
He and collaborator Billy Ray Cyrus took home the Musical Event of the Year trophy for the remix of ‘Old Town Road’.
The track has spent an 20 weeks at number one on the Billboard Hot 100. The chart might as well charge Lil Was X rent at this point.

It even dethroned Mariah Carey’s ‘One Sweet Day’ as the longest-running US number one in history.
He took home the award at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, US.
The artist was running up against beats such as ‘All My Favourite People’ by Maren Morris (featuring Brothers Osborne) and Brooks & Dunn’s ‘Brand New Man’.
Lil Nas X is ‘living life to the fullest’ since coming out as gay.
In his hobby of breaking records, he scored the ‘Song of the Year’ award at the MTV Video Music Awards in August.
He beat out blockbuster singers such as Lady Gaga, Ariana Grande and Taylor Swift to the prize, becoming the first openly gay singer to pick-up the prize.
The 20-year-old hitmaker made headlines across the globe when he came out as gay on Twitter on June 30 of this year.
“Some of y’all already know, some of y’all don’t care,” he wrote at the time.
“But before this month ends I want y’all to listen closely to C7osure.” The lyrics of the song reference letting go and being free.
Since coming out, Lil Nas X has said his life has completely re-coursed, being catapulted into fame and breaking not only records, but barriers as well in a musical genre typified for its anti-gay attitudes.
