A newly engaged lesbian rejected by her parents asked Ellen to walk her down the aisle and, well, just watch what happened

Ellen DeGeneres had a big surprise for a lesbian couple after one of their parents refused to walk her down the aisle.
DeGeneres flew the newly-engaged couple from Philadelphia to Los Angeles to appear on her show, after one of them sent her a tweet which went viral.
“My parents aren’t going to attend my wedding because they don’t like that I’m gay,” Kate Austin posted along with photos of her romantic Paris proposal to girlfriend Sarah Sulsenti.
“I need someone to walk me down the aisle and someone else for a ‘father/daughter’ dance. Please come, my fiancée and I would cry.”

Appearing on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Austin thanked DeGeneres for her ground-breaking coming out.
“If it wasn’t for someone like you, I would’ve never had the courage to just go out there in public and propose to my fiancée,” she said.
“So many people don’t accept that, and you paved the way for queer women everywhere.”
DeGeneres replied: “Everybody deserves love. That’s the most important thing. And the fact your family doesn’t accept it, I am so sorry.”
After discussing Austin’s difficult relationship with her mother – “she was really terrible” – DeGeneres told the couple that she wouldn’t be able to attend their wedding.
By way of apology, she surprised the couple with a group of their family and friends to watch Sulsenti do her own proposal.
“For Kate and for all the people out there that are not accepted by their family, you are loved by so many people and we love you for who you are exactly,” said DeGeneres, who was recently forced to defend her friendship with George W Bush, who as president was notorious for his anti-LGBT+ politics.
“Anybody struggling out there, just be proud of who you are and know that you’re gonna find a different family.”
She then told the couple that her philanthropic partner Shutterfly would be putting $25,000 behind the bar at their wedding reception.
After the show aired, Austin tweeted: “Life is insane guys, I’m so happy I can’t stop crying.” Wow, what a moment.
