RuPaul discusses his open marriage in rare, candid interview

“What are you afraid of?” the Vanity Fair reporter asked RuPaul, in what may have been the drag icon’s most candid interview yet.
“Ignorant people,” Ru calmly replied, “it’s the only thing I’m afraid of.”
Asking questions across four categories – identity, family, culture and work – the literal covergirl for this month’s Vanity Fair was totally transparent, a rarity for the TV personality.
As the camera steadily zooms in as RuPaul answers the reporter’s questions, RuPaul touches on an array of raw topics.
Such as loneliness, his open marriage and how his drag identity came to be.
‘Monogamy is actually something that can actually happen,’ says RuPaul.
“I feel most like an outsider every day of my life,” he continued, “I’ve come to peace with feeling like an outsider.
“I know it’s a condition of my brain, it’s not necessarily the truth because everybody feels like an outsider, everybody feels that way.”
RuPaul has been married to his husband Georges LeBar since 2017, whom he met “on the dance floor at Limelight discotheque in 1994”.
RuPaul described how LeBar is tall. Really, really tall: “He was 6’8″ at 12-years-old.”
As he watched LeBar “dancing like a maniac” in platform shoes, RuPaul explained: “So, I had to go over ands say, ‘Who are you?’ What are you doing?'”
“Can I put my arms around you?” RuPaul asked LeBar, “cause I’m tall, I’ve never been able to put my arms around someone’s shoulders who was taller than me.”
Discussing the topic of their open marriage, RuPaul said that the “hoax is that monogamy is actually something that can actually happen,” and he would not want to “put restraints on” the person he loves.
