Jane Lynch defends ‘billionaires in wine caves’ and then asks Twitter how she can ‘stop trending’

Glee star Jane Lynch is the latest celebrity to wade into politics on Twitter, defending the right of “billionaires in wine caves” to pick the next President after Elizabeth Warren criticised Pete Buttigieg for a lavish fundraising dinner.
Lynch, 59, was tweeting in response to comments made by Warren, who during Thursday’s Democratic debate called out Buttigieg for participating in a lavish dinner at a winery in Napa Valley, California, where a bottle of wine cost $900.
“The mayor just recently had a fundraiser that was held in a wine cave full of crystals and served $900-a-bottle wine,” said Warren.
“Think about who comes to that. He had promised that every fundraiser he would do would be open-door, but this one was closed-door. We made the decision years ago that rich people in smoke-filled rooms would not pick the next president of the United States.
“Billionaires in wine caves should not pick the next president of the United States.”
Buttigieg responded by saying that he was the only person at the debate who wasn’t a millionaire or billionaire.
“This is the problem with issuing purity tests that you yourself cannot pass,” he said.
Last night, Lynch – who has financially supported Buttigieg’s campaign to be the next US president and hosted events for him – tweeted: “Hello everyone.
“Billionaires in wine caves have as much right to say who gets to be president as waitresses in diners and plumbers in my bathroom. Class warfare is ugly, @ewarren. Thanks for listening everyone.”
Lynch almost immediately regretted her comments, asking Twitter how she could “stop trending” in a now-deleted tweet.

Lynch, who split from wife Lara Embry, the director, in 2014, tweeted an hour after the “billionaires in wine caves” tweet that “the dying embers of what was the wine cave meme [are] gently blown back to life”.
