What happened to bisexual murderer Luka Magnotta after ‘Don’t F**k With Cats’ documentary?
The recent true crime Netflix documentary Don’t F**k With Cats: Hunting An Internet Killer chronicles the story of bisexual murderer Luka Magnotta – but what has happened to him since?
Impossible not to watch in one night, the three-part documentary follows a group of internet sleuths trying to track down a man who tortured and murdered kittens, then posted the videos online.
What started as a Facebook group of cat lovers turns into a global police manhunt when in May 2012 the killer brutally murders Chinese international student Jun Lin, filming the murder and posting it online under the title “1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick”.
Lin was also dismembered, and his body parts were mailed to various political parties in Toronto.
The killer was eventually revealed as former model and porn star Luka Rocco Magnotta, and the authorities joined forces with the internet sleuths to track him down and arrest him.
In 2014, a jury convicted Magnotta of first-degree murder. Now 37-years-old and serving a life sentence, he has not spoken to the press in years.
However, there are a few surprising facts that have surfaced about Magnotta in the five years since his arrest.
According to the Montreal Gazette, in 2015 while incarcerated at Port-Cartier Prison, Quebec, he was allowed to sign up for an inmate dating website called Canadian Inmates Connect.
This caused massive controversy, especially as Magnotta had targeted Lin through an LGBT+ dating site.
However he soon removed himself from the website, saying to the site’s owner: “Thank you for your service. I found what I was looking for.”
In 2017, Magnotta got married to fellow inmate Anthony Jolin, who is also a convicted killer. Magnotta’s mother Anna Yourkin, who also appears in the Netflix documentary, was their witness. The prison did not allow them to spend time alone after getting married.
In 2018, Yourkin teamed up with author Brian Whitney to write a book about her son titled My Son, The Killer: The Untold Story of Luka Magnotta and “1 Lunatic 1 Ice Pick”.
According to the National Post, Yourkin maintains that she is “proud to be his mother”.
