Woman threatens to bomb Catholic school and kill kids over decision to celebrate same-sex marriages
A woman has been indicted after threatening to “bomb” and “burn” a Catholic school and “kill kids”, two days after it announced that it would print news of same-sex marriages in its alumnae magazine.
Sonia Tabizada from California was charged with making a bomb threat against the all-girls Catholic Georgetown Visitation Preparatory School in Washington DC.
The federal charges were filed on December 6 and unsealed on January 3. Tabizada has pleaded not guilty.
According to The Washington Post, sister Mary Berchmans, president emerita of the Catholic school, announced on May 13, 2019, in a letter to alumnae that the magazine would publish news of same-sex marriages.
She wrote: “Recently, a Visitation friend invited me to reflect upon what it means to Live Jesus in relationship with our LGBTQ alumnae… The Church is clear in its teaching on same-sex marriages.
“But, it is equally clear in its teaching that we are all children of God, that we each have dignity and are worthy of respect and love.”
Berchmans added: “Beginning with the fall issue of our alumnae magazine, we will publish news of our alumnae’s same-sex unions, along with all updates our alums choose to share with their classmates.”
Two days later, on May 15, the Catholic school allegedly received at least two phone calls from Tabizada making violent threats.
According to The Daily Beast, court documents state that in the first phonecall at 5.15am she is accused of saying: “Hey motherf**kers, I’m going to burn that f**king church, I’m going to bomb it, b***h!
“I’m going to f**king kill you guys. I’m going to send my f**king soldiers, motherf**kers.
“Remove the f**king gay motherf**kers from your magazine, or I’m going to f**king kill your kids. That’s a promise.”
Around a minute later in another call, she allegedly said: “What kind of pervert priests do you guys have running the show? Nobody cares for those girls? You’re crushing the innocent, motherf**king a**hole.
“I’m gonna f**king blow up the school and call it a mission from God. You guys are going to get terrorism within your f**king school, motherf**ker. And you’re going to be guilty. And I warned you!”
Tabizada’s attorney, Carmen Hernandez, told The Daily Beast she thought the indictment was “a little overcharged” and added: “It’s not like she cried fire in a crowded theatre.”
According to NBC, a school representative said that Sonia Tabizada is not an alumnus and has no connection to the school.
She will be held in jail until a court date later in January.
