Actor DJ Qualls reveals he’s ‘been gay all this time’ live onstage at a comedy show
DJ Qualls, star of Road Trip, Supernatural, and The Man in the High Castle, has unexpectedly come out as gay while on stage at a live comedy show.
Qualls, 41, made the announcement at the standup show of his friend and former co-star, Jim Jeffries, at the Balboa Theater in San Diego. Before this point he had never spoken publicly about his sexuality or love life.
He later tweeted to his fans: “It is 11:20pm. I just came out on stage at a @jimjefferies show in San Diego.
“Yep, I’m gay. Been gay this whole time. Tired of worrying about what people would think of me. Tired of worrying about what it would do to my career.”

Qualls played a gay character on Amazon’s The Man in the High Castle, which depicts a world in which Nazi Germany won World War II and conquered most of the United States.
He rose to fame after his breakout role in the 2000 cult comedy Road Trip, and has since made appearances on Lost, Monk, Law & Order, My Name is Earl, Perception, Fargo, Memphis Beat and Breaking Bad.
His announcement was met with over 4,000 responses on Twitter as fans rushed to congratulate him.
Good on you. Every person brave enough to live their truth gives courage to others that aren’t quite there yet.
Much love brother.— Twisted Resister (@CryptoMcvape) January 12, 2020
Can’t imagine how hard it is to hide a piece of yourself for so long. Congrats! You’re an incredible person and that’s all that matters. ?️?

Hey, man. I’ve been a fan of your work in several roles on some great TV shows. It doesn’t matter to me one bit who you want to sleep with. I have no idea why it would matter to anyone. Keep on with your awesome acting career!

Congrats on coming out and not having to worry about it anymore!! When I met you in that bar in SoHo I had my suspicions, but I’m not that forward so I didn’t ask. Also that would not have been polite of me. All the best to you DJ! ❤❤❤??? pic.twitter.com/Wf6oEWinCg

Had me fooled, you looked so naturally thrilled holding up the large panties in road trip!! But it was great acting…enjoy your life and be happy with who you are.

I am not shocked at all to read this; we gay people know our family members. I also admired you in movies & was somewhat attracted to you as I love skinny guys. But it is good that you are living your truth. Be strong bro we gat you. #bebrave
