Scotland just cancelled yet another homophobic, anti-abortion, anti-women Christian hate preacher
Scotland has just cancelled another event by an anti-LGBT+, anti-abortion, anti-women evangelist, days after cancelling hate preacher Franklin Graham, who once said gay people caused a “moral 9/11”.
Larry Stockstill, a Louisiana-based preacher, was supposed to give a speech at a religious conference in Edinburgh in June.
But after receiving complaints, Edinburgh City Council has cancelled the event, citing a commitment to “diversity and equal rights for all”.
According to The Times, Stockstill has previously compared being gay to incest.
He wrote in his 2007 book He Teaches My Hands to War, he wrote: “Don’t be deceived. Homosexuality is not normal behaviour and it is not accepted by God.”
He then wrote: “All demons are unclean, unholy things. Incest is such a spirit and so is homosexuality.”
Stockstill also previously said in a sermon: “The average person today has no concern for the gross immorality and debauchery existing in our society.
“Such an individual thinks homosexuality is ‘gay’, abortion is ‘necessary’, and drunkenness and adultery are ‘acceptable’.
“For God’s saints, however, these things should be repulsive and deeply grievous.”
In 2006, pastor Ted Haggard of New Life Church was forced to resign his leadership position and the presidency of the National Association of Evangelicals after allegations emerged he had hired male sex workers and taken drugs with them.
Larry Stockstill was on overseer at New Life Church, and after the pastor stepped down he announced that Haggard would go through rehabilitation for his “problem”. He was later declared “completely heterosexual”.
A Edinburgh council spokesperson told The Times: “We’re committed to promoting diversity and equal rights for all. We have high standards, which we expect those hiring and visiting our venues to respect and observe.
“We have cancelled this booking and served notice to terminate the contract.”
Larry Stockstill is the second cancelled hate preacher after Franklin Graham.
Franklin Graham set to visit the UK at the start of Pride Month in June as part of an eight-day evangelist tour, starting in Glasgow.
But on January 9, Glasgow’s SEC Arena confirmed on January 29 that it was cancelling the event due to “recent adverse publicity”. Graham has threatened legal action in retaliation.
Of his original eight planned tour dates, just one currently has a venue – Newcastle’s Utilita Arena on June 3.
