An Iowa caucus-goer demanded to change her vote after she shockingly realised that Pete Buttigieg is gay and married to a fellow gay man he met on a dating app.

Armed with Bible quotes, an unidentified woman desperately tried to withdraw her caucus vote after learning Buttigieg is gay.

Yeah.

This comes as the Democratic presidential runner is wrestling controversy in the delayed Iowa caucuses – which could crucially cement a candidate’s standing in the race – after appearing to declare victory in a speech.

This was despite no official results being yet declared due to technical difficulties, Democrat officials said today.

Deep breaths now.

In the footage, the caucus-goer asked a poll worker: “Are you saying that he has the same-sex partner? Pete?”

Buttigieg’s precinct captain, Nikki van den Heever, was in disbelief as she spoke to the pollster. “Yes, yes he does,” she responded.

“Are you kidding?!” the woman said.

“Yes, he’s married to him, yes,” Heever replied.

“Well,” the woman said, “then I don’t want anybody like that in the White House. So can I have my [ballot] back?”

Oh, boy.

Not-at-all anti-gay woman advises Christian candidate to ‘read the Bible’.

Heever, sufficiently dumbfounded, attempted to appeal to the woman’s sense of humanity.

“The whole point of it is though that he’s a human being, right?” she said.

“Just like you and me, and it shouldn’t really matter.”

“Well, he better read the Bible,” the woman responded, seemingly forgetting that the person she voted for to potentially lead the country she lives in has centred Christian belief heavily in his campaign and how he literally went to Catholic school as a child.

We’re sure he’s never opened a Bible in his life.

But she also seemed to have somehow navigated the world without encountering Buttigieg’s sexuality. Somehow.

“He does and he says God doesn’t choose a political party,” Heever hit back.

The woman then reproached with religious scripture, showcasing her humanity by invalidating Buttigieg’s existence, love life and marriage. “How comes this has never been brought out before?” she continued.

“It’s common knowledge,” Heever said.

Wait, Pete Buttigieg is… gay?

The South Bend, Indiana, mayor’s sexuality has, at times, been the top-line focus to political pundits and a lightning rod for critics.

While Buttigieg rarely discusses how ground-breaking his candidacy is, supporters have rallied to him over the prospect of having the first openly gay president of the US.

Moreover, the forerunner shared a kiss with his husband Chasten when announcing his campaign bid.

His campaign trail has seen him soar to become a household name in the primaries. The Iowa caucus results could cause tremors in his campaign, especially with some polls predicating a win.
