The Village People are absolutely fine with Donald Trump using gay anthem Macho Man at rallies

The Village People have made clear they have no issue with Donald Trump using the song “Macho Man” at a rally.
The band spoke out after the song was played at a rally for Trump and India’s nationalist leader Narendra Modi on Monday.
In a statement, the Village People said that as Trump had remained “respectful” in the use of their songs, they will not seek to prevent him from doing so.
Trump ‘is entitled to’ use our music, say Village People.
The band said: “We have received numerous requests demanding that we prevent or ban president Donald Trump’s use of our songs, particularly ‘YMCA’ and ‘Macho Man’.
“With the latest use of ‘Macho Man’ in India, we are being inundated and can no longer remain silent.”
The Village People will not seek to stop Trump from using their music
The statement added: “[Trump] has remained respectful in his use of our songs and has not crossed the line; if he or any other candidate were to use any of our songs in a manner that would suggest our endorsement, or in a promotional advertisement, that would cross the line.
“Like millions of Village People fans worldwide, the president and his supporters have shown a genuine like for our music.
“Our music is all-inclusive and certainly everyone is entitled to do the YMCA dance, regardless of their political affiliation.”
The band – which has only one remaining member from its original line-up – added: “We certainly don’t endorse his use as we’d prefer our music be kept out of politics.”
Other bands have sought to stop Trump using music.
The stance is in opposition to that of a number of other musicians, who have ordered the leader to stop using their music.
The surviving members of the band Queen have had Trump videos using their songs pulled down, also threatening action to stop him playing their music at rallies.
Guitarist Brian May said: “We are taking advice on what steps we can take to ensure this use does not continue.
“Regardless of our views on Mr Trump’s platform, it has always been against our policy to allow Queen music to be used as a political campaigning tool.
“Our music embodies our own dreams and beliefs, but it is for all who care to listen and enjoy.”
