Sam Smith is scared of returning to Europe after coronavirus outbreak

British singer Sam Smith has admitted they’re scared to return to Europe because of coronavirus – and has also accidentally revealed that an Australian tour is in the works.
Smith is in Australia, where they’re due to give a headline performance at Sydney’s Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras over the weekend.
But in an appearance on The Project, the 27-year-old revealed that they’re afraid of travelling home because of the coronavirus outbreak.
“I literally just texted mum saying, ‘I’m really scared about the coronavirus,” Smith told host Carrie Bickmore, before adding: “I’m scared.”
Bickmore replied by saying: “You’re girt by sea here so, you’re safe!”
Smith then replied: “Yeah, but I’ve got to go back to Europe and I’m hearing that it is going nuts. Are you kidding me? I don’t like it.”
Earlier in the interview, Smith had accidentally revealed that an Australian tour is in the works.
“[I’m touring] This year at some point,” they said, before looking over at their publicist.
“Yeah. I don’t know if I’m allowed to say that, but it’s obvious…” Smith added.
The singer arrived in Australia four days ago, announcing that it would be their first time at Mardi Gras on Instagram.
“Sydney. I’m home ?❤️ and I can’t wait for this weekend. I’m a Mardi Gras virgin and I’m ready for my cherry to be popped ,” they wrote.
Sydney’s Lesbian and Gay Mardi Gras has hit the headlines twice in the last month – first for banning glitter, and then for scrapping a panel featuring transphobic lesbian YouTuber Arielle Scarcella.
