Barbra Streisand launches scathing attack on Donald Trump and warns Americans they risk becoming extinct
Barbra Streisand has launched a scathing attack on Donald Trump and said America risks being “extinguished” if he is re-elected later this year.
Writing in an op-ed for Variety, Streisand hit out at the Republican president and said the American people have been “dragged down into the mud of Trump’s swamp”.
“He has demolished our standing in the world with his laughable boasts and breathtaking ignorance,” Streisand wrote.
Barbra Streisand accused Donald Trump of putting the planet in a ‘precarious position’ in her blistering op-ed.
“He has put the security of this country, and our planet, in a precarious position by abandoning the Paris climate accord and the Iran nuclear deal.”
She called Donald Trump a “one-man weapon of mass destruction” and “reckless” in the wide-ranging article.
Elsewhere, Barbra Streisand hit out at the Trump administration’s handling of the coronavirus and accused him of ignoring science.
“We can’t go on like this. It’s too dangerous,” she wrote.
We must care about the facts, the planet, each other and the least fortunate among us.
Furthermore, Streisand – who has been a vocal critic of Trump for some time – said that the president believes rules do not apply to him.
“He, and his appointees, have set a whole new level of misconduct.
She continued: “Trump can never live up to Obama’s legacy, so he’s trying to erase it. He inherited a growing economy and now claims credit for it, saying it’s the best in history… but that’s another lie.
The singer said America must ‘bring back dignity and grace’ in the 2020 presidential election.
“Trump is a man who has never once taken responsibility for his own actions, preferring to blame others when he’s at fault. Even impeachment hasn’t humbled him, because thanks to his Republican enablers, he has escaped accountability once again.”
Barbra Streisand said Donald Trump is chipping away at “the pillars of our democracy” with each passing day of his presidency.
“The ‘beacon of hope’ that is America could be extinguished if he’s given another four years,” she wrote.
“In this upcoming election, we must bring back dignity and grace. We must care about the facts, the planet, each other and the least fortunate among us.
“We need a new America, without pollution, without obscenities, without insults, without revenge. We need to restore the nobility of truth… and only then will America be great again.”
Streisand had formerly donated to the campaign of Pete Buttigieg, who has since exited the race, and now seems to be throwing her weight behind Joe Biden as the next Democratic presidential nominee.
