Michelle Obama gives Ellen DeGeneres – and all of us – the coronavirus pep talk we all need right now
While The Ellen Show has been on hold for over a week because of the coronavirus pandemic, Ellen DeGeneres phoned up her friend Michelle Obama to ask about her routine in self-isolation.
Ellen asked her: “What are doing to be creative and keep busy?”
Michelle said: “We’re just trying to structure our days. Everybody’s home, the girls are back because colleges are now online. So they’re off in their respective rooms doing their online classes and I think Barack is… I don’t know where he is.”
She added that she had been working out every day and having conference call meetings, but she may have been a bit confused about the meaning of the phrase “Netflix and chill”.
The former first lady said: “We’re just trying to keep a routine a routine going, but we’ve also got a little Netflix and chilling happening.”
Michelle Obama gave us the coronavirus pep talk we all needed.
Michelle Obama then gave Ellen’s followers the pep talk we all need right now.
She said: “This is like no other time in history, particularly for our kids who are so used to be occupied and stimulated all the time.
“There’s some good and bad that goes with it, you know I feel for all the folks that are going to suffer because of what’s going to happen to the economy.
“We have to be mindful about what we’re going to do to support those folks when this quarantine is over and people are looking at what’s left of their businesses and their lives.”
She continued: “That is a negative, but on the positive side, I know for us, it’s forced us to continue to sit down with each other and have real conversations.
“Really ask questions and figure out how to keep ourselves occupied without just TV or computers. It’s a good exercise in remind us that we don’t need a lot of the stuff that we have.
“When times are bad, having each other, having your health, we can do with a lot less. I think that’s an important lesson I want my kids to understand when they get out there in the world. You know, be grateful for what you have and be ready to share it when the time comes. Because that’s really what it’s all about.”
DeGeneres posted the phone call to Instagram with the caption: “My friend Michelle Obama makes the world a better place.”
Obama responded: “Hearing from you made my day! Even when we’re apart, we’ve still got each other.”
