Sam Smith postpones and renames new album because it ‘doesn’t feel right’ during coronavirus pandemic

Sam Smith has announced that they are postponing the release of their album and changing its title due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The album was scheduled to be released on June 5 and had been titled To Die For, but Smith announced today that both will be changed.
In a statement released today, Smith said they have done “a lot of thinking” about the album in light of the pandemic, which has seen more than 700,000 people across the world diagnosed with COVID-19.
Sam Smith feels that the title of their album and the release date do not ‘feel right’ in light of the coronavirus pandemic.
They said that “the title of my album and imminent release doesn’t feel right” and said they “have come to the decision to continue working on the album and make some important changes and additions”.
“I will be renaming my album and pushing back the release date – both of which are to be confirmed at this time,” Smith wrote.
The non-binary star did however promise that they will release their album this year, but said they do not yet know when.

Smith finished their statement by thanking their fans for “always being by [their] side” and for their “understanding and patience”.
“I always want to do right by you. Always,” Smith added.
Smith said we are living in ‘an incredibly weird, upsetting and unprecedented time’ as COVID-19 continues to spread across the world.
Elsewhere in the statement, Smith sent their “love and strength” to those who have been affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, which has claimed more than 30,000 lives across the world.
They noted that we are living in an “incredibly weird, upsetting and unprecedented time” before explaining that they had made the difficult decision to postpone their album release date.
Artists who had been preparing to release new albums have reacted differently to the current crisis. Dua Lipa decided to bring the release of her second album Future Nostalgia forward by a week and released it last Friday instead.
However, Lady Gaga fans were devastated when she chose to indefinitely postpone the release of her hotly anticipated album Chromatica due to coronavirus concerns.
