Where to watch A Thread of Deceit, the shocking documentary about the Hart family tragedy
In 2018 Sarah and Jennifer Hart drove their car off a cliff and into the sea, killing them and their six children. A new documentary tries to explain the tragedy. Here’s where to watch A Thread of Deceit.
A Thread of Deceit arrives two years after the deaths of the Hart family.
The world was shocked and saddened in March 2018 when Sarah and Jennifer Hart died along with their children Markis, 19, Hannah, 16, Jeremiah, 14, Abigail, 14, and Sierra, 12, after the SUV they were driving in plunged off a cliff.
The couple’s sixth child, Devonte, 15, was also in the vehicle, however his remains were never found. He was later declared dead by officials.
Initial reports of the Hart family tragedy were ones of confusion, with police noting that there was no clear indication as to what had happened.
But in the days, weeks and months that followed, it emerged that the Harts had intended to kill themselves and their children.
Jennifer Hart was found to have been over the legal limit while she was driving the car, while her wife Sarah and two of the children had diphenhydramine in their systems, an antihistamine that causes drowsiness.
As interest in the case grew, a pattern of abuse emerged from within the family, with reports that the six children had been starved and assaulted by their adopted parents.
A Thread of Deceit arrives two years after the tragedy, and was made in response to the way in which “the story was scooped up and spit out in the mainstream and social media with very little compassion and human decency”.
Rachel Morgan, who produced the film with Chris Kobin, said in a statement: “This is what motivated the documentary.
“A chance to tell the story without a motive aside from peeling away the layers of something that was unfathomable.”
