Gather round squirrel friends! Here’s all the tea we have on RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race
RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race starts Friday night (April 24), with a gaggle of returning drag queens helping 12 celebrities find their inner charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent. Here’s all the tea we have, including the Celebrity Drag Race air date and how you can watch it from home.
RuPaul’s latest spin-off is highly unusual, not just because of its new star-studded format, but because RuPaul and his producers have managed to keep details tightly under wraps.
What we do know is that 12 celebrities will undergo a sickening makeover with the help of a few Drag Race legends: Alyssa Edwards, Asia O’Hara, Bob the Drag Queen, Kim Chi, Monét X Change, Monique Heart, Nina West, Trinity the Tuck, Trixie Mattel, and Vanessa Vanjie Mateo.
“Each week, a trio of celebrities open up their heart and mind to the transformative power of drag, embracing the inner fierce queen inside of them,” reads the official synopsis.
Celebrity Drag Race is really being kept a secret.
The Celebrity Drag Race cast is being closely-guarded – hence the show’s full title, RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race.
Bob the Drag Queen joked: “Hillary Clinton’s doing it. No, I’m kidding.”
“It’s exciting,” she told Digital Spy. “It’s a chance to be back in the werk room without having to… without having to compete and feel that pressure. So you’re going to see the girls really relieved a lot. Like, really relieved.”
RuPaul has said that the contestants aren’t given an easy ride.
“RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race is a blast,” she said.
“We put these celebrities through it! Because no matter how famous your charisma, uniqueness, nerve and talent is, you still put your pantyhose on one leg at a time.”
Here’s when Celebrity Drag Race will start and how to watch it.
RuPaul’s Secret Celebrity Drag Race starts from this Friday (April 24) and will air for four weeks as part of a bumper three-and-a-half hour(!) Drag Race block on VH1.
The series kicks off at 9.30/8.30c, following straight on from season 12 of Drag Race, which starts at 8/7c.
Rounding off the evening is Drag Race: Untucked, which will air at the slightly later time of 11/10c.
Will Celebrity Drag Race be on Netflix and how does the format work?
It hasn’t been confirmed whether Celebrity Drag Race will be released on Netflix in the UK, as regular series are, or if it will air on a different network.
Each episode of the four-part series will feature three celebrity guests as they undergo a complete drag transformation with the help of three returning queens.
Kim Chi revealed that the celebrity drag queens will compete in classic Drag Race challenges, including a roast.
The season eight queen shared a video of herself on set with Bob the Drag Queen and Nina West, revealing: “We’re having a roast tonight!”
At the end of the series one celebrity will be crowned the winner, and will nominate a charity to receive their prize money.
