Drag queen who flouted lockdown to attend the infamous ‘rona rave’ lashes out at gays who tried to cancel him
A drag queen who flouted coronavirus restrictions to attend the infamous “rona rave” house party in New York City has finally broken his silence.
The “rona rave” caused controversy this week when gay porn star Ian Frost posted videos from the gathering on his Instagram stories.
Chris Weaver, also known by his drag name Nedra Belle, was one of the people at the party, as seen in Frost’s Instagram story.
Weaver has finally broken his silence in a video posted to Facebook in which he lashed out at the LGBT+ community for trying to “cancel” him over his attendance at the event.
In the video, Weaver confirmed that around 30 people attended the party, despite coronavirus restrictions.
Chris Weaver hit out at cancel culture after he flouted coronavirus restrictions by going to a ‘rona rave’.
“The videos were released, and I was in the video, and now of course there’s this call — of course, they’re dragging us on social media — and there’s this call for some of us who were involved to be cancelled,” Weaver said.
“What I will say is that I know some folks have removed themselves from social media and stuff like that. I’m not doing that. I’m a human. I make mistakes just like you make mistakes.
“It’s life, and I fully understand that I have to deal with the repercussions of what I did and that is just a reality that we have to face.”
He continued: “But I won’t be scared or ran into a hole or a box because you don’t agree.
“Was it dumb? Yes, it was. If I could do it all over again, would I have attended the event? I would have not.”
He went on to defend himself from criticism by saying that he did not intend to hurt anyone and did not intend to contract or transmit the virus.
“That’s not what I did and that’s not what I plan on doing, that’s not who I am,” he said.
Weaver then lashed out at the wider LGBT+ community for the sustained criticism he and other attendees at the party have faced.
“Let me tell you something about the gay community, the LGBTQ+ community,” he said.
“What we do is we are so good at building each other up but we’re even better at tearing each other down, and the problem with that is we can drag and drag and drag folks all day and all night but there is never a chance, where is the chance for redemption? Where is the chance for somebody to make up for their mistakes or get it right?”
The party took place in a New York apartment despite the fact that the city is the epicentre of the pandemic.
He added: “We don’t give that, but we want to cancel folks. If you want to cancel me, cancel me. It is what it is. I’m a human, I make mistakes, you make mistakes, we all make mistakes.”
Weaver’s video comes just days after videos from the party spread across the internet, causing a torrent of backlash against the party-goers.
New York City is the epicentre of the pandemic with more cases than anywhere else in the world, but this didn’t stop gay porn stars and drag queens from gathering in an apartment for a “rona rave”.
The attendees were widely ridiculed on Twitter for flouting coronavirus restrictions in the midst of a deadly pandemic.
