Outer Banks actor Chase Stokes posted an apology after social media posts including homophobic, racist and ableist language resurfaced – then said he’d been hacked.
Chase Stokes, who plays John B in the Netflix drama, has been widely criticised after a series of historic social media posts including an array of derogatory language did the rounds online.
“Bieber means beaver in German ha.. fag,” read one post, apparently dating back to 2010, when the actor would have been 18.
Another post included a version of the N word along with a picture of two boys surfing, with a third chastising a motorist for “driving like a retard”.
Chase Stokes posts apology, then deletes it.
After a Twitter user uploaded screenshots of the posts, a lengthy apology was posted to the Outer Banks‘ star’s account.
“Yes. I will address this,” it read.
“I was not hiding. I consulted in one of my closest friends just as anybody else would. I have posted insensitive tweets. My Facebook has been hacked countless times. The picture isn’t even of me or anybody I know.”
The apology continued, appealing to followed to “see what I am currently doing and how I am continuing to do the right thing by being respectful in today’s climate”.

“This does not excuse my words, nor am I excusing myself,” it went on.
“I will continue to work towards using my platform in the same capacity I have been and doing/bringing light into the world.”
Shortly after the apology was posted, Stokes scrubbed his entire Twitter feed and claimed “somebody obviously got access to my account”.
“My password was changed, figuring things out. I’m really sorry that this is all happening at once,” he wrote.

Twitter followers were unimpressed by Stokes’ update.
