Drag Race confirms All Stars 5 ‘lip sync assassin’ twist and a gag-worthy list of guest judges led by Ricky Martin
Drag Race All Stars 5 has confirmed that the lip sync for your legacy format will be replaced by a new lip sync assassin twist, with a new trailer also revealing that Ricky Martin will guest judge the premiere.
RuPaul has once again left fans wigless, announcing the biggest shake-up in Drag Race herstory.
A new trailer confirms that “All Stars rules have been suspended forever”. Now, each week’s winning queen will lip sync for her legacy against a lip sync assassin from seasons past.
There will be “a different superstar queen every week”, the trailer reveals, and as usual, RuPaul will name a bottom two (or more queens).
If the Drag Race All Stars 5 queen wins the lip sync, she’ll pick up a $10,000 tip and the power to eliminate the bottom queen of her choice.
However if the returning assassin wins, the decision will fall to the rest of the All Stars 5 cast, who will take a vote, and the cash tip will roll over.
Drag Race All Stars 5 guest judges include Ricky Martin and Tessa Thompson.
Drag Race All Stars 5 will start on June 5 on VH1 in the US, a week after the season 12 virtual finale, and soon after on Netflix in the UK and Ireland.
Among the returning queens this year are season one’s Ongina, season two’s Jujubee, and season three’s Alexis Mateo, India Ferrah and Mariah Balenciaga.
Derrick Barry returns from season eight, competing against season nine finalist Shea Couleé and three season 10 queens: Blair St Clair, Mayhem Miller and Miz Cracker.
With the trailer’s release, VH1 also announced this season’s slate of celebrity guest judges.
Ricky Martin will star in the season premiere, and will appear alongside mainstays Michelle Visage, Carson Kressley and Ross Matthews.
Throughout the season the queens will also need to impress Westworld actor Tessa Thompson, singer Madison Beer, comedian Nicole Byer and Modern Family’s Sarah Hyland.
The show will also welcome 13 Reasons Why star Tommy Dorfman, musician Bebe Rexha, actor Jane Krakowski, Veep’s Sam Richardson, interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard, friend of the show Todrick Hall, and Canada’s Drag Race judge Jeffrey Bowyer-Chapman.
