TV station linked to Muslim Brotherhood extremists calls for queer people to be slaughtered and burned alive
An Istanbul-based TV channel affiliated with the Egyptian extremist group Muslim Brotherhood has called for all homosexuals to be slaughtered.
On June 16, Watan TV host Hala Samir gave a monologue reminding viewers of a saying by the prophet Muhammed which orders the killing of homosexuals.
“If you find men engaged in a homosexual act — kill the active one as well as the passive one. Don’t start asking: ‘Are you active or passive?’ Just kill both,” she said.
She went on to consider the best way to kill homosexuals, explaining that although there is a consensus that they should die, there is some disagreement over what form their murder should take.
“The companions of prophet Mohammed unanimously agreed that homosexuals should be killed, but they had disagreements about the method of killing,” she said.
“Some said they should be burned alive – that was [the Caliph] Ali… others said they should be thrown off a high place and this should be followed by stoning. Yet others said they should be stoned to death.”

Samir continued by saying that women who have sex with women are similarly condemned under Islamic law.
“With regard to girls, people ask if the same ruling applies to lesbianism. The Islamic scholars have said unanimously that lesbianism is prohibited,” she said.
“Some of them say, ‘I’m not homosexual, I’m gay.’ They want it to sound nice. No! You are a homosexual, a sodomite, and a lesbian.”
Watan is one of several pro–Muslim Brotherhood TV stations used by the group to broadcast their ideas, news and leadership announcements.
According to the Carnegie Middle East Centre, Egyptian authorities struggle to prevent them from broadcasting because most of the stations are based in Turkey.
The additional difficulty of comprehensively blocking internet sites and other online portals makes it almost impossible to suppress these dangerous radical views.
