Walk the Moon lead singer Nicholas Petricca has proudly come out as bisexual in an emotional video about the importance of living your truth.

The singer-songwriter came out to his 100,000 Instagram followers in a powerful video recorded on the last day of Pride Month.

“Hi, my name is Nicholas, I’m the lead singer of a band called Walk the Moon, and I’m bisexual,” Petricca said in the video.

“Today is the last day of Pride Month here in the year 2020 and I think it’s time that I said that.”

Walk the Moon frontman Nicholas Petricca says he has passed for ‘a cisgender straight guy’ his whole life.

He continued: “My whole life I have passed for a ‘normal person’ – a cisgender straight guy – and this has afforded me a life of privilege. Virtually no name calling or bullying or hardship around my sexuality really at all.

“My heart is with so many LGBTQ+ human beings who have had a much more challenging experience than I have.

I’m here to say I’m bisexual and I have feelings for and am attracted to both men and women, and I have had experiences with both men and women, and I’m proud of it.

“I believe in what Harvey Milk said – I’m paraphrasing here, but – I believe that when the collective as a whole, when people as a whole realise that we are everywhere, that we are your children, and we are your mothers and fathers and brothers and sisters, that we have been with you and among you and we are you, we have been this whole time, that that’s the moment when the myths and the bullying and the inequality will end.”

The Walk the Moon frontman said he had decided to come out as bisexual in the hope that it would give fans the confidence to be themselves.

He told his LGBT+ followers that they are loved.

“I’m here to say I’m bisexual and I have feelings for and am attracted to both men and women, and I have had experiences with both men and women, and I’m proud of it,” he added.

The singer said he believes sexuality is “a spectrum” and told his LGBT+ followers that they are loved.

“Whatever the social normative narrative – programming, mainstream, whatever – would have us believe, you are 100 per cent, grade A a beautiful, complete human being and you are loved.”

He said it is vital that queer people have the confidence to be themselves in order for LGBT+ equality to progress.

He concluded his video: “So, I hope you have the best year of your life, and I love you, and happy f**king Pride.”
