Nyle DiMarco to star in new comedy series as a ‘charismatic, street-smart deaf man’ and maybe the world isn’t doomed after all

You’re about to see a lot more of Nyle DiMarco.
The oppressively attractive model and deaf activist has sold a comedy about being a deaf man living in the US to Spectrum, a Charter Communications-backed platform.
It’ll see the America’s Next Top Model winner star as a “charismatic, smart deaf man”, according to Deadline, in a half-hour project.

Nyle DiMarco: ‘This is huge for me.’
Bringing the good news to his Twitter account on Tuesday evening (July 14), DiMarco, 31, told his 411,000 followers: “If I told my younger self that I would eventually have my own series about deaf culture, I wouldn’t believe it.
“Deaf people leading in a series about deaf culture? Not possible!
“This is huge for me… thank you all.”
The series will feature character-based storytelling, the outlet understands, “to provide a deeper perspective on the experiences of the deaf and hard of hearing communities in America.”

DiMarco will executive produce the series, bringing the actor behind the camera after various stints on Switched at Birth, Difficult People and Station 19.
He later joked on Twitter that he’s come “a long way since Tyra Banks.”

The show announcement comes after DiMarco took to social media to reveal that he had potentially exposed to the coronavirus.
The model described experiencing a spiked fever, chills and a sore throat – all symptoms of COVID-19 – as well as a lack of smell and taste.
Since self-isolating, he is now recovering. But DiMarco’s refusal comes as dire shortages of testing kits strain America’s health services and plunge citizens into uncertainty.
DiMarco signed that he had “access” to a testing kit, but decided not to. “The reason,” he explained, “is because there is a shortage of COVID-19 test kits in the US.
“Sick patients need it more than I do.”
