WWE star Tegan Nox has come out after years of a self-inflicted “don’t ask, don’t tell” policy.

The wrestling star came out last week when she shared a photo of herself and her girlfriend Sierra St Pierre on Instagram and captioned it: “Life is good.”

Nox – real name Steffanie Newell – opened up about her sexuality in an interview with Newsweek on Wednesday (15 July).

“My life has always been a ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ situation, but I feel like it was the right time, especially when you’ve found the right one you’re in love with,” she said.

“It was the right time to do that.”

WWE star Tegan Nox received support from lesbian wrestler Sonya Deville before coming out.

The wrestler said the reaction from fans has been “great” – but there has, of course, been the usual dissenters.

“There are a few people who obviously don’t agree with that, but 99 per cent of the reactions have been positive,” she said.

“I’ve got texts coming through from so many colleagues and friends. It was nice. It’s great to see that there are so many nice people in the world.”

She also revealed that she consulted with lesbian WWE star Sonya Deville before coming out publicly and said she was a “big help”.

“She gave me her phone number and told me to text her if I needed anything. So we keep in contact quite a lot about it.

“She’s a massive help with the fans, because my family knew but my fans didn’t. So she helped me bring it out to the public.”

She has received countless supportive messages from fans since coming out.

Nox’s Instagram post, in which she introduced her girlfriend to the world, has been liked more than 40,000 times and received a flood of supportive comments from adoring fans.

‘This makes me so happy!!!” one fan commented.

Sonya Deville commented with a series of heart-eye emojis, while WWE star Killian Dain commented a clapping emoji.

One fan simply commented: “Is this a win for the girls or what?” while another said: “You love to see it,” along with a rainbow emoji.

Another fan wrote: “Love seeing you happy Tegan, thank you for always spreading positive vibes!!”
