In what is increasingly emerging as a truly blessed year, music-wise at least, Taylor Swift has announced that she is dropping a completely new album called folklore.

It comes after Dua Lipa and Lady Gaga both invented the ability to hear sound with the release of their new albums earlier this year, as well as Lana Del Rey and Kylie Minogue on-track to drop new music this autumn.

“Surprise,” Taylor Swift tweeted Thursday (23 July), “tonight at midnight I’ll be releasing my eighth studio album, folklore; an entire brand new album of songs I’ve poured all of my whims, dreams, fears, and musings into.

“Pre-order at store.taylorswift.com.”

Taylor Swift: ‘If you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world.’

Swift paired the tweet with a teaser of the album’s visual style – a wistful black and white photograph of the singer standing alone in a forest – alongside a lengthy statement giving more details about folklore.

In other words, Swift really did just say we’re not out of the woods just yet.

“I wrote and recorded this music in isolation but got to collaborate with some musical heroes of mine,” Swift wrote.

“Before this year I probably would’ve overthought when to release this music at the ‘perfect’ time, but the times we’re living in keep reminding me that nothing is guaranteed.

“My gut is telling me that if you make something you love, you should just put it out into the world. That’s the side of uncertainty I can get on board with. Love you guys so much.”

Swift added that the album will feature collaborations with Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon, The National’s Aaron Dessner and Jack Antonoff.

Of course, as they were legally obligated to, Swifties rejoiced at the new of their country-pop music queen coming to save music from the likes of Red Stripe-sipping boy bands with acoustic guitars once again.
