Netflix drops first look at Ryan Murphy and Sarah Paulson’s camp new horror Ratched

Netflix has released the first images of Ryan Murphy and Sarah Paulson’s upcoming series Ratched, and it looks like the camp horror classic we all need in 2020.
Ratched, created by Murphy and Evan Romansky, tells the origin story of sadistic nurse Mildred Ratched from One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest.
The character first appeared in Ken Kesey’s 1962 novel and was later immortalised by Louise Fletcher in the 1975 film of the same name.
Fletcher went on to win the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal, and the character has been remembered as one of the most enduring – and terrifying – movie villains of all time.
Now, more than 40 years later, the character is being revived by Sarah Paulson – and we truly cannot wait.
Sarah Paulson will play Nurse Ratched in a new Ryan Murphy Netflix series.
Ratched follows Mildred as she arrives in Northern California in 1947 to look for work at a local psychiatric hospital where doctors have begun experimenting on patients.

Mildred presents herself as the perfect and dedicated nurse and quickly infiltrates the area’s mental health system.
But instead of caring for her patients, Nurse Ratched instead tortures and mistreats them.
The series will also star Cynthia Nixon as Gwendolyn Briggs, Judy Davis as Nurse Betsy Bucket, Sharon Stone as Lenore Osgood, Jon Jon Briones as Dr Richard Hanover, Finn Wittrock as Edmund Tolleson, Charlie Carver as Huck, Alice Englert as Dolly, Amanda Plummer as Louise, Carey Stoll as Charles Wainwright, Sophie Okonedo as Charlotte ad Vincent D’Onofrio as Gov George Wilburn.
The legendary television producer has been behind some of Netflix’s biggest hits in recent years.
Murphy is a gay television producer and is beloved by queer audiences for creating iconic television series such as Glee, Pose and American Horror Story.
His camp creations have been entertaining queer audiences for almost 20 years – and he is showing no sign of slowing down.

In 2018, he struck a five-year deal with Netflix, valued at $300 million, making it the most lucrative TV deal in history.
Since then, he has served as the mastermind on Netflix hits such as The Politician and Hollywood.
He was also behind a Netflix film adaptation of the hit 1970s queer play The Boys in the Band, which is expected to be released later this year, with Jim Parsons, Zachary Quinto, Matt Bomer and Andrew Rannells starring.
