Carly Simon says ‘repulsive’ Donald Trump was ‘all over me like an ugly ape’
It’s safe to say that legendary singer-songwriter Carly Simon is not the biggest fan of Donald Trump – and she has good reason not to be.
The “You’re So Vain” singer revealed in her book Touched by the Sun, released last year, that her experience with the president of the United States was not a good one.
Speaking to The Guardian ahead of the book’s release, Simon said she met Trump in New York at a lunch for Benazir Bhutto, the late prime minister of Pakistan.
“When I came into the room, there was Trump and a whole bunch of New York dignitaries,” Simon said.
“Trump wasn’t paying any attention to me at all. Why would he?”
Carly Simon said Donald Trump was all over her ‘like ugly on an ape’.
But that all changed when the Pakistani prime minister took an interest in Simon.
“Benazir Bhutto summoned me and asked me to go into the bedroom with her and so I went and we sat on the bed and she held my hands and said: ‘I just love your music.’ We talked about different songs that were her favourites and it maybe lasted three minutes,” Simon said.
He was very anxious to meet me and invited me to Mar-a-Lago and was all over me like ugly on an ape.
When they left the bedroom, Trump suddenly realised that the singer-songwriter could be a useful asset.
“He was very anxious to meet me and invited me to Mar-a-Lago (his luxury estate in Florida) and was all over me like ugly on an ape.”
The singer thought the US president was ‘kind of repulsive’.
Simon turned down Trump’s offer of visiting his luxury estate, saying she “thought he was kind of repulsive”.
Speaking about her hit song “You’re So Vain”, Simon said it seemed apt for the president.
“He’s so vain, that’s for sure, and not int the best possible way. He doesn’t bring humour to the word. In the song, hopefully, the person could wink at himself in the mirror because he got the joke.
“I don’t think there’s much interest outside himself,” she added.
“What will happen with a narcissist is that they’re interested in themselves and anything that’s an extension of themselves, perhaps their children, but he’s not interested in the philosophy of great thinkers.”
