Justice Smith’s boyfriend Nick Ashe marked his birthday with a beautiful public declaration on Instagram.
Best known for his roles in Detective Pikachu and Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Justice Smith came out as queer in June as he posted photos of himself with his boyfriend at a Black Trans Lives Matter protest.
Ashe, also an actor, appears in Ava DuVernay’s drama series Queen Sugar and previously starred in queer Broadway play Choir Boy.

In his Instagram post celebrating Smith’s 25th birthday on Monday, Ashe wrote: “justice— you have been the author of all my recent smiles.
“you make me feel safe. seen. heard. inspired. admired. returning the favor has been my favorite adventure. i’ve always appreciated your authenticity, and brilliance, and passion, but you have certainly outdone yourself this year. bravo.
“it’s difficult to fully encapsulate my gratitude, but here’s an Instagram post to help me try. happy birthday, beautiful man. i love you most of all. thank you for all this good.”

Ashe also organised a video featuring all of Smith’s friends wishing him a happy birthday.
Smith wrote: “i woke up this morning to this video made by the one and only @nckash.
“in these transitive times, its hard to celebrate anything but this had me beaming ear to ear. its moving to see how many people you’ve affected and have affected you. and being reminded of something simple, like the love you’ve shared with so many, is a beacon of light.
“i wish i could transfer this feeling of joy to all who need it today. but i guess the only thing i can do is enjoy it deeply and profoundly, celebrate what it means to be alive and healthy and loved, and go forward and remind people of that feeling. it feels really fucking good to laugh.”

Coming out as queer in June, Justice Smith wrote: “As a Black queer man myself, I was disappointed to see certain people eager to say Black Lives Matter, but hold their tongue when Trans/Queer was added.
“I want to reiterate this sentiment: if your revolution does not include Black Queer voices, it is anti-Black.”
