Gay YouTube couple Allie and Sam launch online giveaway for… a vial of donor sperm. Safe to say, people are divided
Two lesbian influencers have surprised their followers with an unusual online giveaway: a free vial of donor sperm.
YouTube couple Allie and Sam took to Instagram to announce a partnership with leading sperm bank Fairfax Cryobank. In exchange for a like, share and follow, one lucky winner will get themselves a free vial of sperm from a donor of their choice.
“We are so, so excited to be partnering with Fairfax Cryobank to (hopefully!) help one of you grow your family!” the loved-up couple wrote.
The unconventional competition attracted a lot of attention but has divided their followers, with some suggesting that the prize was in poor taste.
“Imagine telling a child that they came from an Instagram giveaway,” one poster said, while another joked they “couldn’t wait to win a child’”.
“This is the most surreal-yet-believable thing I’ve seen all week,” another critic added. “Are we all really existing [right now] or is this just someone’s hilarious fever dream?”

However, many followers praised the couple for offering an opportunity to start a family, which can be particularly expensive for same-sex couples.
The price of donor sperm varies but a single vial typically costs between $900 and $1,000 in the US, while the insemination process can cost between $200 and $400.
Several commenters were quick to point this out. “I don’t know this couple, but I don’t see the issue? Sperm is expensive and if this helps a couple’s dreams of making a family then that’s great!” said one.
A number couples who are currently trying to conceive thanked Allie and Sam for offering them a lifeline. “My wife and I are so excited to start a family but boy is this stuff expensive,” said one. “This would be incredible for us.”
Another user wrote: “We just started our IVF process. This would be a dream/big time saving in the already huge bill. Thank you for the opportunity ladies.”
The offer is available to US and Canadian residents, and the winner will be announced on 20 August.
