Disgraced evangelical university boss Jerry Falwell Jr ‘enjoyed’ watching his wife have sex with a pool boy
Jerry Falwell Jr, the disgraced head of a private Christian university that bans students from having gay sex, has been accused of “enjoying” watching his wife have sex with a 20-year-old pool boy across a years-long affair.
The key Trump ally was placed on a “leave of absence” from his role heading the influential private Liberty University earlier this month after posting a racy drunken photo to Instagram, which revived long-swirling rumours about his less-than-puritan private life.
The university boss, who requires students to sign a statement disavowing gay sex, has now been plunged into the middle of an even bigger scandal – after a former Miami Beach pool boy spoke out about a years-long relationship with Falwell and his wife.
Christian university boss ‘enjoyed watching’ his wife have sex with pool boy, report claims.
In a statement referencing the looming story on Sunday (23 August), Falwell claimed that his wife Becki cheated on him with Giancarlo Granda – an affair he described as “something in which I was not involved” which was “very upsetting to learn about”.
But in an explosive interview with Reuters published Monday (24 August), Granda alleged that “Becki and I developed an intimate relationship and Jerry enjoyed watching from the corner of the room”.
The former pool boy met the pair in 2012, when he was aged just 20, and says he engaged in sexual encounters with the Falwells “multiple times per year” at their home near Liberty University in Virginia as well as at hotels in New York and Miami.
According to Reuters, Granda supplied “emails, text messages and other evidence that he says demonstrate the sexual nature of his relationship with the couple”.
A lawyer for Falwell initially told Reuters he “categorically denies everything you indicated you intend to publish about him” – before Falwell’s apparent attempt to preempt the story on Sunday by confessing to parts of it while obscuring the lurid details.
Jerry Falwell Jr squabbles with Liberty University over resignation.
Falwell’s current status at the university is unclear.
On Monday, Falwell and the university confirmed to the Wall Street Journal that he had officially resigned amid the scandal.
However, Falwell has since backtracked, telling Politico: “I have not resigned. I will be on indefinite leave.”
Doubling down, the university has put out a statement confirming that Falwell had initially agreed to resign.
It makes clear: “Matters came to light that made it clear that it would not be in the best interest of the university for him to return from leave and serve as president.
“Falwell responded by agreeing to resign immediately as president of Liberty University today, but then instructed his attorneys to not tender the letter for immediate resignation.”
A university board meeting will discuss the issue on Tuesday.
The interim head of the university appointed last month, Jerry Prevo, is also an extreme anti-LGBT+ evangelist.
