Bella Thorne claimed that her controversial OnlyFans account would serve as research for an upcoming film project with friend Sean Baker, but the director has now said that this isn’t true.

Former Disney star Bella Thorne, who came out as pansexual last year, has been swamped in controversy during the last week over her OnlyFans membership.

Thorne, 22, broke an OnlyFans record this month by becoming the first person ever to make $1 million on the site in just 24 hours, but was soon criticised online after rumours began to spread that she had “scammed” fans, charging them $200 to view a supposed “nude” photo that wasn’t actually fully nude.

A viral tweet alleged that OnlyFans had changed its rules after countless people requested refunds from Thorne, reducing the amount that could be charged for content and holding funds for 30 days before paying creators.

Accused of “ruining” the platform for sex workers, Thorne apologised for the “hurt” she had caused and promised she would be meeting with OnlyFans about the policy changes.

Bella Thorne said she was making a film about OnlyFans on “the politics behind female body shaming and sex”.

When Bella Thorne first announced that she had joined OnlyFans, she also revealed that it would serve as research for an upcoming film she was working on with friend and director Sean Baker.

She said she would be working with Baker to create a documentary “about the politics behind female body shaming and sex”, and told the LA Times:It’s a feature we are researching as I’m living it currently. What are the ins and outs?

“What does a platform like this do to its users? What’s the connective material between your life and your life inside the world of OnlyFans?”

But now, Baker has spoken out and claimed that none of this is true.

In a statement posted on Twitter, he wrote: “I would like to make it clear that the news of me making a film (documentary or fiction narrative) about OnlyFans and using Bella Thorne as research is false.

“I’m NOT attached to this project… Earlier this month I had a conversation with Ms Thorne and discussed a possible collaboration in the far future that would focus on her life and the circumstances leading to her joining OnlyFans.

“On that call, I advised her team to consult with sex workers and address the way she went about this as to NOT hurt the sex work industry. This has been the extent of my involvement.

“I am an ally and have literally devoted my career to tell stories that remove stigma and normalize lifestyles that are under attack. I would never do anything that could possible hurt the community. So please know that this news is not correct.”

Thorne has not publicly addressed Baker’s statement.
