Paris Hilton has been hanging out with Britney Spears again – and is concerned ‘she has no control of her life whatsoever’
Paris Hilton has joined the scores of celebrities voicing concern over the legal arrangement that has presided over Britney Spears’ life for the last 12 years.
Describing the “Toxic” singer as an oasis of optimism, Hilton, 39, said she saw Spears over the summer, often having dinners with a small circle of close friends.
She told Andy Cohen on SiriusXM’s Andy Cohen Live that she, like an ever-increasing amount of people, are uneasy about the musician’s guardianship.
“I feel like if you are an adult you should be able to live your life and not be controlled,” the heir said.
Paris Hilton only speaks about ‘happy things’ with Britney Spears.
Installed in 2008 following her public mental health crisis, Spears’ estate and personal wellbeing since have been administrated by her father alongside court-appointed officials.
In recent weeks, however, Spears, through her lawyer and the thumping support of the Free Britney movement, has sought to bring it to an end. Or, at the very least, not have her father, Jamie, return to the top convertor role after stepping down last year.
Hilton said of Spears’ conservatorship: “I think that maybe stems from me being controlled so much so I can understand how that would feel and I can’t imagine right now if that was still happening to me.
“After just working your whole life and working so hard, she’s this icon and I just feel like she has no control of her life whatsoever and I just don’t think that’s fair.”
For many worried fans of Spears, her colourful Instagram account has been their sole line of contact with the star, often seeing many of her posts as cryptic siren calls amid her scarce public appearances.
“I saw her this summer,” Hilton recalled. “We’ve had dinners, I saw her in Malibu. I just love her so much.”
“She is so sweet and so innocent and such a nice girl. We just talk about happy things.
“Music, fashion… fun things. I never like to bring up negative things and make people feel uncomfortable so I’ve never talked about it with her.”
While court documents have stated that Britney Spears is in a “voluntary conservatorship”, top disability rights lawyers have expressed pinched concern over the extent Spears has a say over the arrangement.
