Madonna to co-write and direct biopic charting her own incredible life story because ‘who better to tell it than me?’

A Madonna biopic will chart the icon’s kaleidoscopic, decades-long career, with the Queen of Pop set to co-write and direct the film herself.
Following in the footsteps of of towering legends Freddie Mercury and Elton John, Madonna’s life story is set to become a major motion picture.
The pop icon, 62, will co-write the film alongside Academy Award-winning director Diablo Cody.
“I want to convey the incredible journey that life has taken me on as an artist, a musician, a dancer [and] a human being, trying to make her way in this world,” the singer wrote in a news release issued by Universal Pictures.
“The focus of this film will always be music. Music has kept me going and art has kept me alive. There are so many untold and inspiring stories and who better to tell it than me.
“It’s essential to share the roller coaster ride of my life with my voice and vision.”
Dirty John star Julia Garner tipped to star in Madonna biopic.
The Madonna biopic was teased by the singer on Instagram last month, when she shared shots of writing sessions with Cody, tranches of drafts covering a coffee table.
In the black and white video, the “Vogue” hitmaker can be heard discussing an outfit she once wore that included garters, and says: “All these details are important.”
“When you’re stuck in a house with multiple injuries what do you do?” she wrote in the caption. “Write a screenplay with Diablo…”
Fans have already tipped Dirty John star Julia Garner for the main role, after eagle-eyed Instagram users noticed Madonna and her manager Guy Oseary had both followed her back in August.

Madonna’s directing career has seen her helm 2008 drama Filth and Wisdom and the 2011 period biopic W.E., about the Duke of Windsor and Wallace Simpson.
Both films were panned and failed to live up to the success of her earlier acting career, the pinnacle of which was the 1996 adaptation of Evita, for which she scored a Golden Globe nomination for best actress.
Candour has long been a hallmark for Madonna’s life, where each of her 14 studio albums has presented a fresh test to a music industry snarled by sexism and ageism.
Wielding her iron will to pave the way for artists such as Britney Spears and Lady Gaga, much of Madonna’s career was spent combatting the stale stigmas that continue to plague female artists today.
