Boris Johnson’s fiancée Carrie Symonds is judging a virtual lip sync battle hosted by LGBT+ Conservatives.
Yes, really.
Symonds revealed the news on Twitter on Friday afternoon (18 September) by retweeting an announcement from LGBT+ Conservatives, the queer wing of the Tory party.
The conservationist, 32, retweeted the announcement and said: “Looking forward to being on the judging panel for this!”
The event description says: “It’s time to party, as we are hosting a lip sync battle! Watch your favourite politicos face-off on some classic songs, all whilst raising money for charity.”
Boris Johnson’s fiancée Carrie Symonds confirmed that she will judge a lip-sync battle at an LGBT+ Conservatives event.
The lip-sync battle will raise funds for the LGBT+ Conservatives group, according to a GoFundMe page.
Funds raised through the event will be used to elect LGBT+ Tories and will be funnelled into campaigns to help pass reforms to the Gender Recognition Act (GRA), the group said.

Symonds, who had a son, Wilfred, with Johnson in April, included a rainbow emoji in her tweet about the event, which will take place on 2 October at 8pm.
Chair of the LGBT+ Conservatives Elena Bunbury replied to Symonds’ tweet, saying she was “so excited” that she had come on board to judge the lip sync battle.
Tory MPs think Symonds stopped Johnson from scrapping reform to the Gender Recognition Act.
Symonds will judge the lip-sync battle just months after it was widely rumoured that she intervened to stop Johnson from scrapping reforms to the Gender Recognition Act (GRA).
The Conservative Party has repeatedly kicked GRA reform into the long grass, despite calls from trans people to make the overly bureaucratic and humiliating process easier.
In July, the Sunday Times claimed that Johnson was planning to “scrap” reforms to the GRA, with an announcement imminent.
However, no such announcement materialised – and Tory MPs later told the Mail on Sunday that he was deterred after Symonds intervened.
A senior source told the Mail on Sunday: “Many detect the hand of Carrie in this, but for whatever reason, Boris does not appear to have an appetite for this fight at the moment. He’s got cold feet.”
