Elton John’s husband David Furnish blasts ‘attention-seeker’ Germaine Greer after tasteless rant about their family

Elton John’s husband David Furnish has hit back at Germaine Greer after she gave an unsolicited opinion on him being named on their children’s birth certificates.
Furnish, who shares sons Zachary, nine, and Elijah, seven, with Sir Elton, took to Instagram after Greer commented on their family.
The once-celebrated second wave feminist said to The Oldie (via Daily Mail): “Their two sons were born to two women, but David Furnish is the ‘mother’ on their birth certificates.
“How did we give this title up? Are we going to have a world where families can be all-male?”
Furnish responded on Instagram, writing: “Dear Ms Greer, I’ll never understand what makes people like you publicly criticise something you clearly know nothing about. Isn’t there enough negativity in the world already?”
She’s not a publicity seeking person like yourself.
The director appeared to confirm that both of the couple’s sons were born to the same surrogate (not two women as Greer suggested), continuing: “The extraordinary woman who carried both our sons is a private person. She’s not a publicity seeking person like yourself.
“Collectively, we decided to remove the surrogate’s name from our son’s birth certificate to protect her identity.
“This turned out to be an extremely wise move, as a journalist managed to illegally acquire a copy of our son’s birth certificate from the registry office. A spectacular feat, given we hadn’t even received the very first copy ourselves.”

He continued: “The same newspaper that has run your misguided rantings also published the full details from that birth certificate online.
“May I respectfully ask you to butt out and mind your own business? This is a private family matter, for which you have no right to publicly level criticism.”
Furnish’s husband, Sir Elton John, is currently locked in a legal battle with his ex-wife Renate Blauel over his 2019 memoir Me, which she claims broke an agreement they had not to discuss their marriage.
The former spouses are said to be holding “peace talks” to settle Blauel’s £3 million lawsuit.
