Documentary filmmaker Louis Theroux once had a walk-on part in gay porn film, the internet has helpfully rediscovered.
The long-serving BBC filmmaker has often touched on LGBT+ issues in his work, from documenting the hateful homophobia of the Westboro Baptist Church to exploring some of the issues facing transgender kids.
But as fans have rediscovered, he took a rather more involved role for his 1998 anthology series Weird Weekends, which featured an episode exploring the US porn industry.

The episode saw Theroux hanging out with gay-for-pay porn actor Troy Halston, who explains that he considers himself straight but does gay porn for money.
While hanging out with Halston, the documentary-maker is volunteered for a walk-on role in a ski-themed film, making a cameo as a sheriff on the look-out for an escaped convict.

He says: “Good evening gentlemen. I’m just out telling everyone they should be on the look-out for an escapee from prison.”
The scene was not just for show, with footage of Theroux apparently making it into a genuine, plot-oriented gay porn film, titled Take a Peak.
While the clip featuring Theroux has helpfully been uploaded to YouTube, the full film also exists online, with a synopsis promising: “Each scene is primed for some rigorous a** f**king and the temperatures are so explosive that it’ll melt anybody coming off the slopes.”
One viewer quipped: “Just imagine someone beating off and all of a sudden, ‘Is that f**king Louis Theroux?!'”
Of the film’s plot, another joked: “I hope they caught him. Sounded like a pretty serious situation. Officer Theroux is a tough as nails cop who doesn’t play by the rules, but he’s just one man.”
Documentary-maker has ‘never watched’ his own porn film.
Theroux previous reminisced over his performance in a 2011 interview with Metro, explaining he was sent a copy of the finished artefact.
He said: “I was living in New York and the film came into my local video store. It was called Take a Peak, and it had a skiing theme… It was most odd.
“They sent me a copy of it but I’ve never watched myself in it. It wasn’t a sex role, I just said a few words.”
