Dolly Parton ‘in talks’ to pose for Playboy magazine for her 75th birthday
Dolly Parton is in talks to pose for Playboy magazine to mark her 75th birthday, the country icon has revealed.
Parton told Scott Mills and Chris Stark on Radio 5 Live that she has discussed the idea of doing a Playboy shoot to mark her birthday in January 2021.
The legendary singer has not graced the magazine’s cover since the famous October 1978 issue was released, which saw Parton wearing a black bunny suit.
“Yeah, I just might do it,” Parton told the show’s hosts when asked if she would consider gracing the cover of Playboy again.
“If I can do it in good taste and we’ll do it along with a really good interview inside. So, yeah, we’ve talked about it,” she added.
In March, Parton hinted that a Playboy cover could be on the way.
Dolly Parton previously said she was planning to grace the cover of Playboy when she turns 75.
When asked by 60 Minutes Australia what her “retirement age” would be, Parton said she has no plans to bow out of the spotlight.
“Well, I don’t play to retire,” Parton said at the time. “I just turned 74, [and] I plan to be on the cover of Playboy magazine.
“See, I did Playboy magazine years ago. I thought it’d be such a hoot if they go for it – I don’t know if they will – I could be on the cover again when I’m 75.”
Parton made history when she first graced the magazine’s cover in 1978, making her the first country star to do so.
If I can do it in good taste and we’ll do it along with a really good interview inside.
The news comes after a busy few months for Parton. While most people spent the initial coronavirus lockdown baking sourdough bread or screaming into the void, Parton recorded a Christmas album, called A Holly Dolly Christmas.
The songs from that album will feature in her new festive film Christmas on the Square, which will be released on Netflix on 22 November.
Directed and choreographed by Debbie Allen, Christmas on the Square follows a Grinch-like woman (Christine Baranski) as she prepares to screw over her local community by selling her father’s land to a property developer.
However, she has a change-of-heart thanks to a rekindling romance and an encounter with an angel – played, of course, by Dolly Parton.
