Rod Stewart reveals he offered Elton John an olive branch after their ‘big falling out’ – but it didn’t end well

Elton John and Rod Stewart are no closer to mending their relationship after a serious fallout, the latter has revealed.
John is refusing to speak to Stewart despite his attempts to extend an olive branch, the “Maggy May” singer claimed in a new interview.
The pair have been friends for decades – with John revealing he used to lure Stewart onto the dance floor with poppers in his recent autobiography – but are currently in the midst of a “big falling out”, sparked in 2018 when Stewart called John’s farewell tour “money-grabbing”.
Stewart said he has since tried to contact John to arrange a playdate for their children, but never received a response.
“Last time I emailed him I said, ‘I’ve got this football pitch, would you like the boys to come up?’ You know, cause they both love football,” he told Chris Evans’ How To Wow podcast.
“You don’t have to come, but if they want to come play on this they’re welcome. [He] never got back to me.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Rod Stewart risked angering Elton John further by criticising his biopic Rocketman.
“It was OK, I just wished it hadn’t been a musical,” he said.
“I mean, the dancing outside the council house made it a bit Mamma Mia.”
Stewart first spoke about the feud in 2019 during an interview with Dermot O’Leary.
“I do love Elton, only we‘re not talking at the moment. We’ve had a spat,” he said. “I criticised his tour as being money-grabbing.”
He was referring to comments he made on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2018, when he said: “If I retire, I won’t make an announcement. I’ll just fade away. I don’t think this is a big deal, it stinks of selling tickets.”
John’s Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour began in 2018 and is currently scheduled to wrap up in 2023, having had a second European and a third American leg postponed due to the pandemic.
He will end the tour with two final shows in New Zealand, having been forced to end an Auckland concert mid-performance due to illness in February 2020.
