Sam Smith says they were ‘chucked off’ Hinge for looking too much like Sam Smith
Sam Smith has admitted that they were booted off the mobile dating app Hinge for, well, looking like Sam Smith.
The “I’m Not The Only One” hitmaker downloaded a slew of apps to find romance during the fiery hellscape that is being single during the coronavirus pandemic.
But the 28-year-old singer admitted that they were “chucked off” Hinge as the company assumed it was a “catfish” account.
Speaking to Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live, Smith explained: “I joined this dating site called Hinge in the UK, and they chucked me off of it after one night because they thought I was a catfish pretending to be me.”
Cohen joked that Smith should consider using Tinder instead as he could help them get verified on the app. “I need to,” they said, “so, I’m gonna do Tinder!”
It comes after the British musician was spied smooching hunky furniture designer Francois Rocci in August.
Sam Smith: ‘I’m still single.’
“I’m still single,” they said. “I’m on the front line with all the single people still and it’s been difficult. I’ve gone on all the apps and stuff.”
After the interview aired, Hinge tweeted Smith, saying: “Sorry, Sam Smith!
Sorry @SamSmith! We know you’re too good at goodbyes but give us a second chance at finding you (+ @Andy) someone special. We will verify your profile 😉 https://t.co/Du9Yb7ddwN

Throughout the turbulent throes of the coronavirus pandemic, Smith has been transparent about their mental health, especially in relation to their relationship status.
The non-binary star’s last public relationship was with 13 Reasons Why actor Brandon Flynn in 2018.
Speaking on SiriusXM, Smith said: “For the first two weeks I was like: ‘Oh my God, I’m single’.
“I went on this dating thing and it was the worst!
“And then you get attached to guys, and then you’re forming quarantine relationships over the phone, it’s a dangerous path.”
They added: “I think I want to be with someone older now.
“I need someone who has passions and has their own drive.
“It’s nice to be able to date on your phone. I haven’t done it in years – I just want the romance.”
