Vile thug mutilates LGBT-inclusive bakery’s Pride flag with knife in ‘disturbing’ act of vandalism

A New York City bakery has spoken out after its Pride flag was sliced off by vandals.
Sugar Sweet Sunshine, a popular cupcake bakery located in Manhattan’s Lower East Side, spoke out against after the rainbow flag that had proudly hung from its storefront for two years was destroyed.
The bakery, which has been contending with a number of acts of anti-social behaviour in recent weeks, posted about the incident on Tuesday (October 20) after the flag was apparently sliced off.
An Instagram post from the bakery said: “Seriously? Do we have to bring EVERYTHING into our store at the end of the night??? Someone felt the need to slice our Pride flag off with a knife last night.
“I know in the grand scheme of what’s going on in our city these days, this isn’t monumental. We can and will get a new one but that’s not the point. It’s the WHY someone would do this that’s disturbing.”

The owners said they aren’t sure whether the incident was an act of hate or random vandalism.
Owners are upset about hurtful act of vandalism.
Co-owner Peggy Williams told CBS New York: “I don’t understand why someone would do such a thing. It’s not a valuable piece of our property, but it’s meaningful, and it’s pointless to destroy someone’s property like that.”
The incident has not been reported to the New York Police Department, Williams added.
One customer said: “People can be so sick! I’m sorry this happened to you guys!”
Another added: “I would like to think that whoever did this, was because they want a Pride flag and couldn’t buy one. But we all know that’s not true, and we understand the message of hate that is behind this despicable action. I’m sorry to see this. More because it has happened in NYC.”
It’s far from the only such incident. In 2019, a Manhattan gay bar spoke out after its Pride flag was pulled down and set on fire twice in one month.
