Pete Buttigieg doesn’t mind if you call him ‘slayer Pete’. But he does have an important warning for America

Pete Buttigieg

Pete Buttigieg is revelling in his new reputation.

The once-presidential hopeful appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Thursday night (October 29), where the comedian brought up his new role as commander-in-shade for the Joe Biden-Kamala Harris campaign.

“People are calling you, instead of mayor Pete… slayer Pete,” Fallon said of Buttigieg’s recent round of Fox News interviews, which have seen the Democrat humiliate, embarrass and undermine the right-wing station’s pundits.

Laughing, Buttigieg explained why he keeps returning to the network.

“I just think it’s important to reach people where they are, and people are tuning into that network in good faith.

“I don’t believe that their opinion hosts are always speaking in good faith, but the viewers might be.

“How can I be mad at a voter or a viewer for not supporting my perspective if they’ve literally never heard it. So, it’s my job to get that perspective out there and hopefully win some people over. Shame on us if we don’t try.”

Pete Buttigieg warns: ‘You’re not going to want to look back on 2020 and say I was on the sidelines.’

Of course, Pete Buttigieg used the Jimmy Fallon interview to get a few swipes in at Donald Trump, attacking his botched handling of the pandemic.

The former South Bend, Indiana mayor called coronavirus the number one issue in the election, adding: “It didn’t have to be this bad.

“But as long as you’ve got a president who literally says the numbers are low when they’re going through the roof, says that we’re going to be fine or told us it would go away, when you’re in that kind of denial about a big problem you’re never going to be able to solve it.”

Appealing directly to voters who want rid of Trump but who haven’t yet made up their mind about casting their ballot, he added: “If you’re frustrated with the system, if you’re frustrated with the way things are going, none of that changes unless you get out there and vote.

“You’re not going to want to look back on 2020 and say I was on the sidelines.”

‘Slayer’ Pete strikes again with Florida heckler.

Pete Buttigieg spoke to Jimmy Fallon from Florida, where he’s been campaigning for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

On Wednesday (October 28), slayer Pete struck again when a man in a MAGA hat and cargo shorts interrupted his stump speech.

As staffers attempted to move him on, Buttigieg rallied: “Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president who will serve him just as enthusiastically as he will serve us?

“Wouldn’t it be nice to have a president who cares just as much about protecting the lives of those that protest us as those who stand at our side?

Turning his attention back to the man, he added: “And don’t you feel a little sorry for a president who finds it necessary to draw this kind of support? But it’s OK sir, because when Joe Biden is president you will be safer too.”

As the Trump supporter continued his protest, Buttigieg tried a different tact, asking: “Do you denounce white supremacy?”

When the man nodded in agreement, he continued: “Good, then we agree on something. That’s a beginning point. See if you can get your president to do the same thing.”
