Loki will be bisexual and have both male and female love interests in new Disney+ series, reports claim
Loki will be bisexual and have both a male and a female love interest in an upcoming Disney+ series, according to an industry insider.
Tom Hiddleston is set to reprise his role as the “God of Mischief” in the upcoming miniseries, simply titled Loki, which was delayed until 2021 due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Now, industry insider Daniel Richtman has claimed that Loki will be openly bisexual in the new Disney+ series, according to We Got This Covered.
No images or trailers have been released yet from the series, which is expected to debut on the streaming platform early in 2021 – however, Richtman claimed he has insider knowledge about the character’s romantic liaisons.
He suggested that Loki will have both a male and a female love interest in the upcoming series.
It is expected that the highly anticipated series will also see Loki moving between different genders and time periods, with Richard E Grant rumoured to be playing an older version of the anti-hero.
The changes will bring the character more in line with the original depiction in Marvel comics, where Loki often switched genders.
Loki could be among Marvel’s most diverse offerings yet, with a trans character rumoured to be in the mix.
The upcoming Disney+ series looks set to be among Marvel’s most diverse offerings yet, with rumours suggesting it will also introduce trans superhero Sera for the first time on-screen.
In Marvel Comics, Sara is part of a race of wingless angels known as The Anchorites. All of the angels are assigned male at birth, but Sara always knew she was a woman.
The rumours were first reported by The Illuminerdi in January, with the website claiming that a casting notice for a trans actor in her 20s or 30s, which made headlines in the summer of 2019, was actually for Loki and not, as was thought at the time, Thor: Love and Thunder.
Marvel has consistently faced criticism for its failure to feature meaningful LGBT+ representation in its films – but that looks set to change in the coming years.
Actor Tessa Thompson said in July that the next phase of Marvel films will “push the bounds” of representation, and confirmed that her superhero character Valkyrie will have a queer storyline in Thor: Love and Thunder.
Marvel is also set to introduce one of its first LGBT+ superheroes in The Eternals, which was originally set to be released in November 2020 before being pushed back by a full year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
