Miley Cyrus captures all our feelings in 27 perfect seconds – because finally, it’s a party in the USA

Joe Biden and Kamala Harris just won the American election, and to quote a great scholar: “It’s a party in the USA”.

The US election was called for Biden and Harris on Saturday (November 7) after a tense week of vote-counting, baseless allegations of fraud, and countless fingernails bitten down to bloody stumps.

But now, none of that matters. Four years defined by aggression, a denial of basic science, metaphorical phallus swinging and continued attacks on the LGBT+ community will soon be over, with the new administration ushering in a new era of decency, respect and inclusion.

With Joe Biden as president-elect and Kamala Harris set to become the first female, Black and Asian-American vice president, nerves have been replaced with jubilation for many.

Or, as Miley Cyrus put it, “now THIS is a PARTY IN THE USA”.

Across the US, citizens have begun celebrating in any way they can, honking and cheering in the streets.

The election was called after Biden and Harris took an unassailable lead in Pennsylvania, whose 20 electoral college votes put them over the 270 threshold needed to win the presidency.

Since then, Nevada has also turned blue, bringing their current total count (according to the Associated Press) to a thumping 290.

Moments after newsdesks called the election, Harris shared a video of her first phone call with Biden as vice president-elect and president-elect respectively.

Biden meanwhile released his first statement as president-elect, saying: “I am honoured and humbled by the trust the American people have placed in me and in vice president-elect Harris.

“In the face of unprecedented obstacles, a record number of Americans voted. Proving once again, that democracy beats deep in the heart of America.

“With the campaign over, it’s time to put the anger and the harsh rhetoric behind us and come together as a nation. It’s time for America to unite. And to heal.

“We are the United States of America. And there’s nothing we can’t do, if we do it together.”

Donald Trump meanwhile was pictured playing golf, showing no signs that he plans to concede the election, as is customary. This, however, means nothing, as his reign of terror will soon be over.
