Jonathan Van Ness has had it with ‘cruel’ John Cleese. Officially
Jonathan Van Ness had nothing but scorn for John Cleese after the Monty Python star let loose another string of anti-trans tweets in support of JK Rowling.
For reasons known only to John Cleese, the 81-year-old comic decided to spend his Sunday morning trolling trans people, unfortunately not for the first time.
“Deep down, I want to be a Cambodian police woman,” read one of his more antagonistic tweets. “Is that allowed, or am I being unrealistic?”
Having sparked sufficient outrage, he went on to claim: “I’m afraid I’m not that interested in trans folks. I just hope they’re happy and that people treat them kindly.”
Cleese followed this up with a laundry list of the things he’s actually more focused on, including American democracy and police brutality.
His hypocrisy attracted the attention of Queer Eye grooming expert Jonathan Van Ness, who presumably lived quite happily before the faded British comedy actor ever entered his orbit.
“Dear John Cleese,” Van Ness began, “You’ve made several transphobic comments here.
“You do seem to not only be interested in trans folks, but also adding to transphobia at a time when trans people are being murdered world wide. Trans and non-binary people aren’t being treated kindly.”
Once he’d warmed up, he offered the seething suggestion: “Instead of worrying about American democracy worry about the transphobia gripping the UK.
“Worry about the staggering inequality your country faces and keep LGBTQ issues out of your chapped ass lip having mouth unless you due to some miracle become an ally.”

But Jonathan Van Ness wasn’t done. “Try being a trans, non-binary, or gender non-conforming person especially Black and brown ones, ALONE in a rural town or ANYWHERE in the world,” he added.
“The JK Rowling and John Cleese of the world could never. So cruel to constantly punch down onto a marginalised group of people.”
After firing off dozens of sardonic tweets to trans people and allies, Cleese suddenly had no reply – perhaps, as Van Ness suggests, because he prefers “punching down”.
PinkNews has contacted John Cleese for comment.
