Mean Girls’ Jonathan Bennett announces engagement after boyfriend surprises him with incredible musical proposal
Mean Girls star Jonathan Bennett, who played Aaron Samuels in the cult classic, has gotten engaged to his long-time boyfriend Jaymes Vaughan.
Vaughan proposed to Bennett by writing him a song.
In a video, shared with People, Vaughan holds up a sign that reads: “We never did find our song, so I wrote a song for you.”
He then plays Bennett the heartfelt song, and he tells him: “Every single word of that song is true. There’s not a single thing in my life that I haven’t been 100 per cent sure of until you came along, and that thing that I am 100 per cent sure of is you.
“So I want to spend forever, every single day telling you how much I love you.”
Bennett then begins screaming and crying as Vaughan gets down on one knee and pops the question.
Mean Girls star Jonathan Bennett got engaged to his boyfriend Jaymes Vaughan with an original song.
Speaking to People about the engagement, Bennett said: “He wrote me a song! We would always hear songs and think, ‘Oh that would be our song if just this part or that part were different,’ so as a result we didn’t have a song that was ‘ours’.”
Vaughan revealed that he wrote and recorded the song while Bennett was in Canada filming his gay Hallmark Christmas film, The Christmas House.
Bennett also recounted the lead-up to Vaughan’s proposal, saying: “My sister shouted for me to come outside ‘real quick’ and my FOMO kicked in so I ran outside.
We would always hear songs and think, ‘Oh that would be our song if just this part or that part were different,’ so as a result we didn’t have a song that was ‘ours’.
“Then I looked over and saw Jaymes holding a sign that said: ‘We never did find our song, so I wrote it for you.’ That’s when I knew I was getting proposed to because it was the same type of sign he made when he told me he loved me for the first time.
“And then I began to ugly-cry the ugliest cry anyone has ever cried.”
Bennett described Vaughan’s song as “the most beautiful song” he had ever heard.
“I’ve always loved his voice, and to hear his voice singing to me was really special. It’s hard to describe what it feels like to have a song written about you that is so specific and that reassures all your insecurities.”
