Doctor Who’s Mandip Gill is totally here for a queer romance between Yaz and the Doctor

Doctor Who

Doctor Who star Mandip Gill gave fresh hope to “Thasmin” shippers as she responded to rumours about a romance blossoming between Yaz and the Thirteenth Doctor.

Gill’s character Yasmin Khan has been travelling with the Time Lord since her debut in series 11, alongside Bradley Walsh’s Graham O’Brien and Tosin Cole’s Ryan Sinclair. Throughout the last two seasons the show’s dropped some major hints that Yaz could be bisexual, launching hundreds of hopeful fanfics.

Mandip Gill finally addressed the speculation ahead of the New Year’s Day special “Revolution of the Daleks”, suggesting she certainly wouldn’t stand in the way of a relationship between the two.

“Me and the Doctor? I love it,” she told SFX (via Radio Times). “The fan art is just out there. It’s good, innit? You want a character and a storyline, [and] even though that storyline wasn’t there, you want people to be talking about it.

“I don’t want it to just stay on-screen, I want people to relate to it or have seen something in our two characters that they think could go on a different journey. So to me, I’m here for it.”
With Graham and Ryan departing Doctor Who in the upcoming special it looks like Yaz will be going solo with the Doctor, which would leave plenty of opportunities for their friendship to develop into something more.

Even Yaz’s mum has picked up on some chemistry between the two, and she directly challenged them on it in series 11’s “Arachnids in the UK”.

“It’s not a difficult question… are you two seeing each other?” she asked. The Doctor responded as evasively as you’d expect, but Gill hasn’t ruled the possibility out.

“I’m not saying it happens or it doesn’t happen,” she teased.

But if it did happen, she would only have one request for the Doctor: that she “balms her lips, because I really take good care of mine. Don’t let that be your headline – she’ll get loads of lip oil sent to her!”
