Reynhard Sinaga, ‘evil’ rapist who bragged about his crimes with Little Mix lyrics, slapped with tougher sentence
The “most prolific rapist” in British legal history, Reynhard Sinaga, has had his minimum jail term increased from 30 to 40 years by the Court of Appeal.
Sinaga, 37, is linked to more than 190 potential victims, many of whom were gay and bisexual men he lured from outside Manchester nightclubs.
In January the Indonesian student was sentenced to life for a total of 159 offences, including 136 counts of rape committed against 48 men.
Judge Suzanne Goddard QC described Sinaga as “an evil serial sexual predator” and a “monster”. She ruled his life sentence must include a minimum of 30 years in jail, but the attorney general’s office found the sentence to be “unduly lenient”.
Sinaga’s minimum sentence was reconsidered at a Court of Appeal hearing in October, alongside the sentence of serial rapist Joseph McCann whose victims included an 11-year-old boy to a 71-year-old woman.
The court heard that the two men had committed “some of the worst and most violent” sex offences in British legal history, with prosecutors arguing that they should never be released, according to the Manchester Evening News.
On Friday (11 December), a panel of five of the country’s top judges ruled that both should have their minimum sentences extended to 40 years.
Lord chief justice Lord Burnett, who said: “The offending in the cases of McCann and Sinaga, very serious indeed though it is, does not, in our judgment, call for either to receive a whole life tariff.
“This is not to minimise the seriousness of their offending, but instead to ensure that the most severe sentence in our jurisdiction is reserved, save exceptionally, either for the most serious cases involving loss of life, or when a substantive plan to murder of similar seriousness is interrupted close to fulfilment.”
He added: “Neither man has shown any remorse and the long-term psychological damage for at least some of the victims in both trials is profound and will only be understood in the years to come.”
Once the men have served their minimum sentences, the Parole Board must assess if their release would still pose a risk, meaning they could spend the rest of their lives in prison.
Reynhard Sinaga bragged about his crimes using Little Mix lyrics
Reynhard Sinaga used GHB to drug his victims before sexually assaulting them, filming as he did so.
In WhatsApp exchanges with friends in 2015, he shared a photo of an unconscious straight man after a friend joked that he “can get in lots of straight boys”.
The rapist told his friends that he relied on “Black Magic”, quoting a Little Mix song, adding: “Take a sip of my secret poison, I’ll make you fall in love… One drop should should be enough.”
In other messages, he wrote: “SuperRey saves straight boys from their monstrous girlfriend.”
Prosecutor Iain Simkin said of the messages: “He is admitting there what he is doing. He’s boasting about it.
“It is breathtaking that not only is he committing these offences and filming these offences, he’s boasting about these offences.”
