Dolly Parton showed Jennifer Saunders her ‘beautiful’ secret chest tattoos
Dolly Parton showed Jennifer Saunders her “beautiful” secret chest tattoos, the Absolutely Fabulous star has claimed.
Rumours have long swirled about Parton’s ink, with the singer telling People in September that she has some “tasteful” tattoos – but she has tended to remain tight-lipped about the nature of the art.
During an appearance on There’s Something About Movies on Wednesday (16 December), Saunders revealed that Parton showed her the tattoos when they met in Los Angeles.
“I was in Los Angeles with Roseanne, because she wanted to buy [the rights to] Ab Fab,” Saunders said on the show. “And she decided that because Ab Fab is all about girls drinking, we’d go out.”
While sitting in a bar, Roseanne spotted Parton sitting at another table.
“She went, ‘There’s Dolly Parton.’ I went, ‘Oh, I love Dolly Parton,’ and she went, ‘Do you want to meet Dolly Parton?’ I went, ‘Yes.'”
The pair “staggered over” to Parton’s table, and the country superstar was “so gracious”.
Dolly Parton has said she got tattoos to help cover up scars
“We sat one side, she sat the other side. Dolly and Roseanne are sharing stories about tattoos. And Dolly went, ‘Ok, I have tattoos.’ And we went, ‘Really? Dolly Parton, you have tattoos?’ She just unbuttoned her little jerkin and there’s full t**ts, rose up, I have to say, and she has the most beautiful tattoos, like works of art.”
Rafe Spall asked Saunders: “On her boobs?”
“On her boobs, Saunders replied. “In her arm pits. And then she buttoned it back up and went, ‘So that will go no further.’ It was honestly the strangest thing.”
Parton opened up about her tattoos in an interview with People in September, putting to bed years of speculation that she had secret ink.
“I do have some tattoos, that’s true,” Parton said. “But they’re tasteful. I’m not a tattoo girl.
“My tattoos are pretty, they’re artful and they usually started out to cover some scar, not to make a big statement.
“Ribbons and bows and butterflies are the things that I have. I was very sick for a while and I had to wear a feeding tube. It left a little indentation in my side and I didn’t like it because I’m so fair that scars turn purple on me.”
Parton said she decided to get tattoos because she liked to “make positives out of negatives”.
