Sex and the City could finally be coming back to TV with the original cast returning – except for one

A Sex and the City reboot is rumoured for HBO Max with all the original cast – except for Kim Cattrall.
Page Six has reported that HBO Max is mulling a limited series reboot starring Sarah Jessica Parker (Carrie), Cynthia Nixon (Miranda) and Kristen Davis (Charlotte) – but not Cattrall (Samantha).
The British-born actor has repeatedly said she has finished with the show, revisiting the topic on a Women’s Prize For Fiction Podcast episode released Wednesday (22 December).
“I wouldn’t be any good doing something that I really didn’t want to do,” Cattrall told host Zing Tsjeng.
“I have a great appetite for telling stories that I haven’t heard before.”

It is not yet clear whether Cattrall’s character, Samantha Jones, would be written out of the Sex and the City reboot or recast.
Nixon has previously backed calls for for Ratched co-star Sharon Stone to take over the role.
However, Nixon added: “I’ve also heard many people say, including Kim Cattrall herself, that if we were to have a different fourth woman that maybe it would be a woman of colour this time, and I think that would be amazing as well.”
Sex and the City creator Darren Star addressed the show’s lack of diversity in 2019. He said that it was “the one thing [he] probably would have liked to hae done differently”.
Sex and the City reboot could touch on #MeToo and social media.
In a 2019 ET interview, Sarah Jessica Parker said she would like to revisit the characters with “a few episodes”.
“I’d like to see where all of them are,” Parker said. “I’m curious, the world has changed even since the movie. I mean, the world has changed so much, technology and social media.
“Those characters never talked about social media, which I think would be really interesting and just also sexual politics and the #MeToo movement and Time’s Up has really steered conversations about sexual politics, and I think Carrie Bradshaw would just be so greedy to share her feelings and thoughts.”
The original Sex and the City ran for six seasons from 1998 to 2004, which is available to stream on NowTV and Amazon Prime Video, and was followed by two films, which came out in 2008 and 2010.
A third film was long-rumoured but officially cancelled in 2017.
Parker said at the time: “We had this beautiful, funny, heartbreaking, joyful, very relatable script and story.
“It’s not just disappointing that we don’t get to tell the story and have that experience, but more so for that audience that has been so vocal in wanting another movie.
There have long been rumours about Cattrall and Parker not getting along.
In 2018, Cattrall posted about her former co-star: “Your continuous reaching out is a painful reminder of how cruel you really were then and now.
“Let me make this very clear. (If I haven’t already) You are not my family. You are not my friend.”
The original series is available to stream on NowTV and Amazon Prime Video, while the first film can be rented on Amazon Prime Video, iTunes or Google Play and it’s sequel is available to stream for free as part of an Amazon Prime membership.
