Defiant ex-Mormon hangs 10,000 rainbow Christmas lights in protest against homophobic neighbours

‘Tis the season for battling homophobia, as one LGBT+ rights advocate found out at Christmas.
The Seattle woman, Lexi Magnusson, was faced with a dilemma when she found out that her new neighbours were “bigots”.
“Since regular aggression leads to assault charges, I went with passive aggression,” she said.
Ten-thousand fairy lights later, her house was transformed into a powerful display of equality, lit up in the colours of the LGBT+ Pride flag.
Magnusson is ex-Mormon. Her neighbours follow the religion and thought she shared their penchant for hating LGBT+ folks.
“We absolutely do not,” she made clear. “It’s why I left the Mormon church.”
She grew weary of her neighbour when she learned she had moved states to “protect her children”, because her son had been attending an LGBT-inclusive school that held assemblies speaking positively about the trans community, and had allowed a lesbian couple to attend prom together.
The neighbour told Magnusson “that she wanted to get her children away from that sort of influence and people making that ‘lifestyle’ OK”. Seriously.
Her response to her neighbour was: “Your kids are going to be exposed to this no matter where you take them. Kids these days get it.
“They know not to be horrible to other kids based on how they were born.”
After the exchange, Magnusson said she “rage-ate a bowl of nachos”
She added: “I felt good the entire time I put them up.
“I sent a text to my cousin who loves Christmas lights like I do, and who is also gay. His approval was everything.
“I wanted the rainbow to stand out so there was no question as to what it is.”
