Drag Race fans ‘disappointed’ after Miss Vanjie and Silky Nutmeg Ganache caught partying without masks
RuPaul’s Drag Race stars Shangela, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo, Silky Nutmeg Ganache have suffered stinging criticism for allegedly partying in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Photographs of Shangela uploaded to Instagram showed her at a beach club in Puerto Vallarta, a resort town in the western state of Jalisco. While video footage appeared to show a maskless Vanjie and Silky, who sells face masks on her merchandise store, at a club.
Even with the state’s coronavirus restrictions, queer folk have flocked to its beaches while organisers bend the rules to get away with hosting events. With a sinking gay circuit cruise becoming a flash point in a growing so-called “civil war” among queer men between those flouting restrictions and those watching in horror from home.

Drag Race stars should ‘know better’, says Farrah Moan
A screen capture of an Instagram Story showed Shangela, who only recently launched her own line of hand sanitisers, posing with two men. The location was tagged at the Mantamar Beach Club Bar & Sushi, an adult-only gay-friendly eatery.
Sources previously told LGBTQ Nation that Shangela had allegedly been “in attendance” at events in Puerto Vallarta.
The drag trinity immediately drew backlash from Twitter users as well as from Drag Race UK queen Sum Ting Wong and Drag Race‘s Farrah Moan.
In a Twitter thread published Wednesday (6 January), Moran took aim at the two entertainers, saying she’s not “tryna become the COVID police, but [Vanjie and Silky] y’all know better than this [shake my head]. So disappointing.”
I’m not tryna become the covid police but @VanessaVanjie & @thesilkyganache y’all know better than this SMH 🤦🏼♀️ so disappointing. I Hope y’all don’t bring that shit back to LA where 1 in 5 people are testing positive & hospitals are at max capacity turning patients away 😤🙄 https://t.co/FkZeKS9Fbq

She added that Silky “swiftly” blocker her, before explaining: “Vanjie if you see this, I am not trying to doxx you.
“All we want is accountability – admit your mistake, apologise for being selfish and careless, then use your platform to spread awareness. Also self-quarantine for a couple weeks.”
Sum Ting Wong joined the simmering chorus of criticism, saying: “Wow, it just gets messier and messier, I’m not mad, I’m just disappointed.”

It’s the latest episode of the LGBT+ community recoiling in horror at their members defying coronavirus measures even as the deadly virus rampages across the world.
One queer whistleblower has even taken it upon themselves to set up an Instagram account dedicated to exposing queer revellers defying pandemic precautions.
PinkNews reached out to Shangela, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo and Silky Nutmeg Ganache for comment.
